Even without an official fireworks display, Chicago didn’t fail to celebrate Independence Day with style.

Chicagoans enjoyed the sun and breeze by Lake Michigan on Friday afternoon. In the evening, the night sky lit up with colorful bursts as residents in neighborhoods across the city set off fireworks in front of their homes.

Hundreds cool off at Lake Michigan at Promontory Point in Hyde Park. Friday’s high temps were in the upper-80s to low-90s. Saturday’s high will be in the low- to mid-90s, with the heat index hitting 100 in some areas and a possibility of storms.
