A Kankakee man was ordered to remain in custody after he was charged with firing several rounds on a bus Monday afternoon outside Midway Airport, according to police and court documents.
David Finch, 33, charged with reckless discharge of a weapon, criminal damage to government property and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, was ordered detained during a Tuesday hearing, officials said.
Around 5:40 p.m. Monday, Finch was on empty bus No. 8026 at 4612 W. 59th St. when he opened fire, damaging the bus and leaving bullet holes, police said.
The shooting resulted in seven bullet holes and a ricochet mark throughout the bus and damage to the floor, window, ceiling, electronic sign and side wall, according to court documents.
Surveillance video captures Finch allegedly firing a round toward the open front door of the bus where several people were waiting to board other buses at the terminal, prosecutors said.
He was arrested and a gun was recovered at the scene, officials said.
Finch pleaded guilty to possession of a gun after being arrested in 2023, court records show. He was sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, with credit for time served and was released from parole last month, court records show.
Finch’s next court date was scheduled for April 27 in Skokie.
