A Chicago man is facing murder charges in the 2021 road-rage shooting of a Southern Illinois University student in north suburban Gurnee.
LLovani Gomez, 36, is accused of fatally shooting 22-year-old Daniel Lobo on Nov. 21, 2021, the Gurnee Police Department announced Monday.
Lobo, of Waukegan, was riding in a car when the driver got into a dispute with the driver of another vehicle just after midnight near Waveland and Grandview avenues.
The other driver, later identified as Gomez, allegedly fired shots, striking Lobo in the back, police said.
Lobo, who was home for Thanksgiving break, was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Gomez is facing three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said.
Gomez was expected to appear in court May 20.
