Weiss Memorial Hospital in Uptown without air conditioning since Monday

The air conditioning at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Uptown went out Monday as temperatures started to spike in the city.

As of Tuesday evening, 60 patients at the hospital, owned by Resilience Healthcare, were moved to the company’s other hospital, West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, a spokesperson for Weiss said. The hospital’s out-patient areas aren’t impacted and remain open.

The emergency room is redirecting ambulances to other hospitals, but is open to walk-in patients, the spokesperson said. If they need care, they will be stabilized and transferred to another hospital.

Mechanics are working on restoring the air conditioning system, but it’s estimated to take several days “given the aging infrastructure had not been properly maintained by its previous owners,” the spokesperson said.

Resilience Healthcare acquired Weiss Memorial, West Suburban Medical Center and West Suburban’s River Forest medical campus from Pipeline Health in 2022.
