A man was charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of a woman at a Green Line CTA station in the Austin neighborhood.
Willie Holmes, 54, was charged with one felony count of first-degree murder after he allegedly stabbed the victim, 25-year-old Emily Carlson, Thursday afternoon at the Central Green Line station, according to Chicago police.
Several witnesses identified Holmes as the person who spit on Carlson before pulling out a knife and stabbing her, according to a police report. Carlson collapsed and was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital for surgery, where she was pronounced dead that evening.
Holmes has a lengthy arrest record, including drug charges, battery, traffic violations and shoplifting mostly in the 1990s and early 2000s.
He is scheduled to appear in court for a detention hearing Saturday.
