Widespread flooding throughout the Chicago area was \u201clikely\u201d Tuesday as a severe storm system potentially bringing tornadoes and hail looms. <\/p>\n
A combination of cooling temperatures in the 40s throughout the metro area paired with warming temperatures reaching close to 80 degrees south of Interstate 80 is expected to create clashing air masses that will bring the worst of the storm south of the interstate, including the threat of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s probably going to wiggle and wobble and ebb and flow a little bit here through the afternoon and evening, but primarily that\u2019s sort of the corridor that we\u2019re eyeing for this front to set up,\u201d Kevin Doom, a meteorologist with the weather service, said.<\/p>\n
Threats of a tornado are \u201csignificantly lesser\u201d in the metro area, but a \u201cdecent amount\u201d of rainfall and some hail was likely in parts of the city, according to the weather service. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhether that amounts to flooding is a little uncertain,\u201d Doom said.<\/p>\n
