{"id":2206,"date":"2025-08-19T15:20:41","date_gmt":"2025-08-19T15:20:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firearmupgrades.com\/?p=2206"},"modified":"2025-08-19T15:20:41","modified_gmt":"2025-08-19T15:20:41","slug":"widespread-torrential-rainfall-leaves-several-inches-after-thunderstorms-sweep-through-chicago","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firearmupgrades.com\/?p=2206","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Widespread, torrential&#8217; rainfall leaves several inches after thunderstorms sweep through Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Several inches of rain fell throughout the Chicago area as thunderstorms swept through Monday night and early Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p>Nearly 1.9 inches of rain fell at O\u2019Hare, with 3 to 4 inches reported in parts of southern Cook County into Lake County, Indiana, according to the National Weather Service. <\/p>\n<p>CTA Purple Line service was temporarily suspended due to downed tree limbs from the storms and street flooding was reported in parts of the southwest suburbs, city officials said. <\/p>\n<p>From Saturday to Tuesday morning, there have been over 5,600 calls for flooded basements, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications.<\/p>\n<p>Highways flooded as well, according to the Illinois State Police. Standing water persists in the following areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>I-55 southbound to Joliet Road, there is still about a foot of standing water however vehicles are going through at a slow speed.<\/li>\n<li>I-55 northbound is enduring standing water across all lanes at Cicero Avenue.<\/li>\n<li> I-290 eastbound at Oakley Avenue and on I-290 at the eastbound ramp near the split to I-94 southbound at Taylor exit, there is standing water in half the lane, while standing water is also affecting one lane on I-290 eastbound at Laramie Avenue.<\/li>\n<li>I-80 westbound to Center Street reported 2-3 inches of standing water, but traffic is getting through. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Chicago\u2019s OEMC is partnering with the Illinois Management Agency to gather extra flooding information through a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/survey123.arcgis.com\/share\/053f41e7228a4e33a0daf7419c440d79?portalUrl=https:\/\/ilema.maps.arcgis.com\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">self-assessment survey<\/a> to determine whether additional options can be pursued to help residents, OEMC said. <\/p>\n<p>Mayor Brandon Johnson will visit some of the communities impacted by recent flooding on the Southwest Side and plans to hold a press conference on the issue later Tuesday morning. <\/p>\n<p>Over 130 flights were canceled at O\u2019Hare with over 120 more delayed as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flightaware.com\/live\/cancelled\/today\/KORD\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">FlightAware<\/a>. At Midway, over 20 flights were delayed. <\/p>\n<p>The stretch of storms were connected to a larger system that brought similar storms to the area this past weekend. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe essentially had this upper disturbance that was just kind of meandering about the region for several days,\u201d Kevin Doom, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said. \u201cIt kept pumping a lot of moisture into the region and that\u2019s why we saw such widespread, torrential rainfall.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Doom anticipates a break from the storms this week. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cBest chances, I\u2019d say right now we\u2019re dry through the weekend.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/weather\/2025\/08\/19\/widespread-torrential-rainfall-leaves-several-inches-after-thunderstorms-sweep-through-chicago\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Several inches of rain fell throughout the Chicago area as thunderstorms swept through Monday night and early Tuesday.
