{"id":2060,"date":"2025-08-05T06:57:35","date_gmt":"2025-08-05T06:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/firearmupgrades.com\/?p=2060"},"modified":"2025-08-05T06:57:35","modified_gmt":"2025-08-05T06:57:35","slug":"trump-pushes-climate-change-denialism-guts-federal-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/firearmupgrades.com\/?p=2060","title":{"rendered":"Trump Pushes Climate Change Denialism, Guts Federal Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<br \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Even as the world reels from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/temperatures-rising-nasa-confirms-2024-warmest-year-on-record\/\">hottest year<\/a> ever recorded, the Trump administration is taking unprecedented steps to make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/19\/climate\/trump-climate-denial.html\">climate change denialism<\/a> the foundation of its federal policy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There is an overwhelming <a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/climate-change\/scientific-consensus\/\">scientific consensus<\/a> that climate change\u2014which is fueled by human activity (mainly greenhouse gas emissions from actions like burning fossil fuels)\u2014has made <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2023\/08\/11\/climate-change-critical-infrastructure-heat-flood-energy-transportation-housing\/\">extreme heat and precipitation<\/a> more intense and frequent, driving or amplifying the heat waves, floods, and hurricanes that have devastated communities across the United States.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div data-nosnippet=\"\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Even as the world reels from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/news-release\/temperatures-rising-nasa-confirms-2024-warmest-year-on-record\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hottest year<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ever recorded, the Trump administration is taking unprecedented steps to make <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/19\/climate\/trump-climate-denial.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate change denialism<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the foundation of its federal policy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is an overwhelming <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/climate-change\/scientific-consensus\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">scientific consensus<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that climate change\u2014which is fueled by human activity (mainly greenhouse gas emissions from actions like burning fossil fuels)\u2014has made <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/foreignpolicy.com\/2023\/08\/11\/climate-change-critical-infrastructure-heat-flood-energy-transportation-housing\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">extreme heat and precipitation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more intense and frequent, driving or amplifying the heat waves, floods, and hurricanes that have devastated communities across the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet U.S. President Donald Trump has waged an all-out war on federal climate efforts, including by <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">gutting<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/19\/climate\/trump-climate-denial.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate research efforts<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, dismissing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/28\/climate\/national-climate-assessment-authors-dismissed.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hundreds of scientists<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributing to a flagship report, eliminating <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">key regulations<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and slashing <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hundreds of millions of dollars<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/11\/business\/energy-environment\/energy-department-renewable-funding-cuts.html\">funding<\/a> for renewable energy projects.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the center of Trump\u2019s blitzkrieg is a rejection of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate science<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> itself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump has claimed that climate change is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eenews.net\/articles\/how-trumps-assault-on-science-is-blinding-america-to-climate-change\/\">hoax<\/a>\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins rejected it as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/05\/19\/climate\/trump-climate-denial.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">crud<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in May. Lee Zeldin, the administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has <a href=\"https:\/\/subscriber.politicopro.com\/article\/eenews\/2025\/07\/29\/zeldin-previews-his-big-climate-move-heres-a-fact-check-00481721\">dismissed<\/a> what he has referred to as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cthe climate change religion.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On Aug. 4, Energy Secretary Chris Wright was the latest to repeat such claims. \u201cThe ceaseless repeating from the media, politicians and activists claiming that climate change is making weather more dangerous and severe is just nonsense,\u201d he said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecretaryWright\/status\/1952370967780454744\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">post on X<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThat is just NOT true.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wright\u2019s misinformation comes just days after Zeldin <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-climate-epa-endangerment-zeldin-5cba0871c880e23d044ef40a398c57b2\">announced<\/a> that the EPA aims to overturn the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">landmark<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">endangerment finding\u201d that determined that greenhouse gases threaten public health. That scientific determination formed the legal basis for a range of climate regulations, including ones <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/29\/climate\/epa-endangerment-finding-repeal-proposal.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">imposing limits<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on car and power plant emissions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zeldin has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-climate-epa-endangerment-zeldin-5cba0871c880e23d044ef40a398c57b2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hailed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the proposed move as \u201cthe largest deregulatory action in the history of America.\u201d \u201cThere are people who, in the name of climate change, are willing to bankrupt the country,\u201d he said in a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">podcast interview<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. \u201cThey created this endangerment finding and then they are able to put all these regulations on vehicles, on airplanes, on stationary sources, to basically regulate out of existence, in many cases, a lot of segments of our economy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The proposal sent shockwaves across the scientific community, sparked sharp criticism from climate research groups, and is certain to trigger a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2025\/jul\/31\/trump-epa-endangerment-finding\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">fierce legal battle<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cRepealing this provision will have vast impacts on Americans\u2019 lives: it will make it harder for people to deal with rising household energy bills, harder to address health problems from extreme heatwaves, and harder for businesses to succeed in a changing climate,\u201d World Resources Institute U.S. director David Widawsky said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wri.org\/news\/statement-us-epa-proposes-reverse-its-authority-limit-climate-pollution\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">statement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDecades of EPA\u2019s own science demonstrate that managing greenhouse gases is fundamental to protecting Americans\u2019 health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To justify its efforts to revoke the endangerment finding, the Trump administration has cited a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">151-page Energy Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-07\/DOE_Critical_Review_of_Impacts_of_GHG_Emissions_on_the_US_Climate_July_2025.pdf\">report<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that was <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/aug\/01\/trump-epa-climate-change-report\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published hours<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> after the EPA\u2019s initial announcement and is written by four scientists and one economist\u2014all of whom are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/07\/31\/climate\/trump-climate-skeptics-science-report.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">known skeptics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the scientific consensus on climate change.\u00a0 The report has been<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0criticized<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by scientists for <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/scientists-say-new-government-climate-report-twists-their-work\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">cherry-picking information<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and misrepresenting and distorting findings.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Trump administration\u2019s embrace of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate change denialism<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> comes as China races ahead in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2025\/06\/30\/climate\/china-clean-energy-power.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">clean energy boom<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, pushing forward with tens of billions of dollars of exports of lithium-ion batteries, solar panels, and electric cars.
