The air conditioning at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Uptown went out Monday as temperatures started to spike in the city. <\/p>\n
As of Tuesday evening, 60 patients at the hospital, owned by Resilience Healthcare, were moved to the company\u2019s other hospital, West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, a spokesperson for Weiss said. The hospital\u2019s out-patient areas aren\u2019t impacted and remain open. <\/p>\n
The emergency room is redirecting ambulances to other hospitals, but is open to walk-in patients, the spokesperson said. If they need care, they will be stabilized and transferred to another hospital. <\/p>\n
Mechanics are working on restoring the air conditioning system, but it\u2019s estimated to take several days \u201cgiven the aging infrastructure had not been properly maintained by its previous owners,\u201d the spokesperson said. <\/p>\n
