Man runs red light, causes two buses to crash: police

A bus driver was in critical condition and at least eight other people were hospitalized after a driver ran a red light and caused two CTA buses to crash in East Garfield Park Wednesday night, according to Chicago police.

A man driving a sedan eastbound on West Lake Street at 6:42 p.m. drove through a red light and hit a CTA bus going south on South Homan Avenue, which then hit another CTA bus going north on Homan, police said. The driver of the second CTA bus was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the sedan was issued several citations and also taken to Stroger Hospital, in stable condition, police said. Seven bus passengers also were taken to local hospitals in various conditions.

The CTA didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
