A 19-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after a shooting last November in a Bronzeville Jewel Osco, Chicago police said.
Elijah Theodore of Washington Park was arrested in Phoenix on Friday and extradited back to Chicago and charged with first-degree attempted murder. Theodore is accused of shooting a 46-year-old male security officer Nov. 11 in the grocery store at 443 E. 34th St., according to police.
At the time, police said two men entered the Jewel and tried to steal three bouquets of flowers and a greeting card on display. As they were leaving the store, the security guard intervened. One of the robbers fired a gun in his direction, hitting the man and two others nearby, police said.
Two of the wounded were taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, including the security guard, who was in serious condition suffering from gunshot wounds to his body.
A 29-year-old woman was shot in her left foot. A 67-year-old woman was grazed in her left foot and declined to be taken to a hospital, police said. Two others fell during the chaos.
Customers ran for cover in the store, including in the freezers and fled to neighboring businesses in the strip mall.
